Ignite Texas is a four-day retreat that connects incoming UT and ACC freshmen and transfer students to Christian community at The University of Texas and throughout Austin. With band and speaker sessions, small group time, and fun camp traditions, the retreat provides students with friends and community before arriving to campus, and gives them the tools they need to seek spiritual growth during their time at UT. Ignite strives to serve freshmen in the transition to college with support and encouragement in this challenging stage of their lives.
Our purpose is to glorify the Lord by serving incoming students and showing them their first glimpse of the body of Christ at The University of Texas. At the retreat, we have a Ministry and Church Fair that introduces campers to many churches and Christian organizations in Austin, allowing them to see God’s influence both on campus and in the city.
Founded in September 2002, Ignite was created as a model of the mission statement for a retreat called “Impact” at Texas A&M University. Every August since the founding of Ignite, the staff has served by reaching out to incoming students through the unity of the body of Christ. The name “Ignite” represents the organization’s purpose: to ignite the hearts of freshmen to seek God during their college career. [Philippians 1:9-11, 1 Corinthians 12:12, 1 Timothy 4:7-8]
